So uh enjoy those! Like I said in my letter last year, I love vids that make really out-there creative choices, so please absolutely feel free to take any wild swings that call to you. But I would also be very happy to receive a cute fun ship/friendship vid, especially for the movies on this list. Any music or audio that works for your vid concept is great but I’m not wild about media dialogue directly on top of song lyrics.

This year I went hard in a “weird movie” direction (all but the last two of these are safeties) and I would love to see you as a vidder getting weird with it! Hello, thank you for making me a vid!! I’m super excited for this exchange but I did forget to do this letter /o\ so this is going to be very quick and stream of consciousness. I’m gonna try to stick to prompts that are relatively on theme but we’ll see if I succeed. Feel free to disregard everything below, ofc. I forgot why I requested some of the ships/characters I put in my sign up but rest assured if you make something for any of those I will be delighted!

I Saw the TV Glow (2024)

What a movie!! I would love to see absolutely anything you did with it. I think there’s so much to unpack with the fact that Isabel is theoretically dying in the quote unquote “real world” but to return there would also require a death.

This is a totally optional extra thing but I think you could do something incredibly cool by combining ISTTVG with Buffy. You got your dead magic lesbians. You got your “maybe this reality is the fake one” episode. Amber Benson is there. The BVTS references are so heavily embedded throughout and that could be really neat to play with!

The Prestige (2006)

a) I love stage magic. Love the kind of pretentious structuring the movie as a magic trick thing b) the core death concept in this movie is so haunting! What is going on in that guys mind!

Farcille 100000% obviously. The themes of life and death and consumption! I also listed Kabru bc I love the bit of his party TPK-ing twice in a row and the general worldbuilding element of adventurers being mostly unable to die in the dungeon, and I think a vid that went in on that angle would be cool as well.

Ghosts! Spirits! Dimple is there, also! I feel like this show has a ton of fun spirit designs and animations and I’d love to see a vid full of those.

Interview with the Vampire (TV 2022)

claudiaaaaa my beloved. I love how much she & Louis & everyone are trapped by their undeath. I also think it’s so cool how the show made the “interview” part and everyone’s conflicting memories really core to what it’s doing. I’d love to see a Daniel vid as well.

Thank you for making a vid for me!! As always everything in this letter is totally optional.

I love vids with a strong thesis or statement to make, character studies, worldbuilding and cool visuals, found family and femslash (among many other types of vids!) Any type of music is great as long as it fits your concept, but I’m less into very slow and angsty vids, especially if they’re shippy. I’m also not wild about source dialogue that goes directly over the lyrics of the song, but other uses of show audio are fine.

There are a lot of mystery & crime-related fandoms on this list so I feel like I should ask that you avoid very pro-cop/pro-law-enforcement narratives. I don’t really anticipate it coming up with these specific fandoms, though.

17776: What Football Will Look Like in the Future - Jon Bois
I never thought I could get as invested in (very fictional) football as 17776 and its sequel made me. It’s such a cool and unusual storytelling format that gets you feeling things about the nature of humanity through some jpegs of satellites and google earth images. This definitely also makes it a challenge to vid (although I have actually done it, kind of) but I feel like there’s an opportunity there to get as weird and experimental with form as the comic(?) itself. You’re welcome to use outside footage if you’d like! Any focus is good—I’m very attached to the satellites but I also think it would be funny to try to make more of a straight-up sports vid.

Ace Attorney (2012) [SAFETY]
30k Ace Attorney works on AO3 and apparently no one’s tagged this movie even once…this is an injustice. This is a live action adaptation of the first Ace Attorney video game by director Takashi Miike, who is better known for his violent horror and crime movies. It combines faithful adaptation of a lot of the more cartoonish elements of the games with a really weird and dark visual style and vaguely dystopian worldbuilding. The plot might be incomprehensible if you haven’t played the game. Honestly it’s pretty incomprehensible if you have played the game. The perfect movie.

For vids: I’m absolutely here for narumitsu shipping, or Phoenix and Maya friendship, or Fey sisters, or Miles Edgeworth backstory, but more than anything I am here for the wild visual and worldbuilding choices. The confetti….the genuinely dark parrot backstory….THE BLUE BADGER. WHAT. I think you could go silly or lean into the thriller-ish aspects, just make it weird!

Bound (1996) [SAFETY]
Lesbian movie of all time!!! I love women, I love when women do crimes, I love when crimes spiral wildly out of control. Not much more to say about this one but it’s an all-time favorite for me and I really like the slight tension between the two central women and the way they engage with their own lesbianism (“You know what the difference is between you and me, Violet?.....me neither.”)

I’m open to any type of vid for this movie, but especially a ship vid for the main characters. I’m not actually sure if this type of request is legal in the era of umbrella fandoms but if you wanted to make some kind of f/f or generally queer multi-Wachowskis vid……that would be fun imo.

東京ゴッドファーザーズ | Tokyo Godfathers (2003) [SAFETY]
Three homeless people find an abandoned infant and embark on a quest to return it to its parents. A beautifully animated movie that’s sometimes silly, sometimes emotionally intense and ultimately heartwarming. It’s also (lightly) a Christmas movie.

I like all the major characters in this movie (especially Hana and Miyuki), and the dynamic between the three main characters is very sweet. I would love a vid about the three of them, a vid about Hana, a general found family vid, or a vid focusing specifically on the queer community depicted in the movie.

cw: attempted suicide, and the language used around Hana, the trans main character, varies depending on which audio/subtitles you get. The 2020 dub is a good choice which features a trans voice actress (and Kate Bornstein in a supporting role, which is wild.)

Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective
An incredibly charming little puzzle game, originally for the DS but rereleased in HD on Steam and Switch this year! You play as a ghost who solves mysteries and saves people using your “ghost tricks.” If you haven’t played it, I highly recommend going in blind—it’s a short game (maybe 10-12 hours) with some really delightful twists and turns. All the characters have super unique and fun animations, the puzzles are full of rube goldberg nonsense, and the ending is SO cute. The creator put his own real-life dog in the game. Go play it! You won’t regret it!

Vid-wise, I’d love something that focuses on Sissel and/or Missile (I’m also really fond of Cabanela), an ensemble vid, or something that plays heavily with the mechanics and worldbuilding. I’m a sucker for time loop vids so that’s always a fun angle too.

Rosemary and Thyme (TV)
Cozy British mystery series about two older women who are mainly gardeners, and also murders. My favorite thing about this show is that every episode they have to solve both a murder mystery and a garden mystery of some kind. The friendship between Rosemary and Laura is cute and the juxtaposition of gentle cottagecore gardening plotlines and murder is funny to me every time. There’s definite femslash potential if you’d like to go that direction.

沙海 | Tomb of the Sea (TV)
Throwing this particular tomb show out here again bc it’s so deeply weird and features so many minor/one-off characters who I would love to see vids for, including but not limited to: Su Nan, Liang Wan, all the teens, and (admittedly more of a major character) Hei Xiazi. Qin Hao!Wu Xie is such an interesting character too (the Wu Xie and Su Nan parallels…) and the Sha Hai-era Iron Triangle fucks me up!! You’re welcome to include other tombs but I am interested in this specific show and era.

Likes: women, femslash, polyamory, friendship & found family, vids with a strong thesis statement, fast-paced/action-y vids, character studies, experimental vidding choices. Absolutely any kind of music is great if it fits your concept, but I’m slightly less into very slow and angsty vids, especially if they’re shippy.

DNWs: cop-focused narratives, onscreen sexual assault. On a vidding level, I have a hard time when there’s lots of source audio on top of music with lyrics.

I saw this movie recently (it’s on Netflix) and I love it and I can’t explain it. It’s a cup stacking sports movie. It’s a relationship drama. It’s a comedy. It’s a very loose Fast & Furious parody, sometimes, kind of. It has some very sweet platonic relationships and some very cute kid actors. It did Parasite for like 5 seconds. It’s just a fun and weird time and I’d love to see what kinds of fun and/or weird vids can be made out of it.

The Talk of the Town (1942) [SAFETY]
Absolutely delightful old movie about a fugitive labor activist, his childhood friend, and a law professor who's coincidentally staying in her house. Classic fun 40s hijinks and lots of philosophical discussions of morality vs. the law. I would love an ot3 vid!

This is How You Lose the Time War - Amal El-Mohtar & Max Gladstone
An epistolary-ish novel about about rival agents moving through time and falling in love. This is one of my favorite recent SFF books, and it has such beautiful rich imagery! (And the romance is excellent too.) I’d love to see what could be done with it in vid form.

Badhaai Do (2022) [SAFETY]
A gay man and a lesbian enter a lavender marriage and try to keep up the ruse with their families—it's silly and tropey but also surprisingly sincere. I’m kind of a sucker for marriage of convenience and the way this movie built to the complicated queer family ending was so good! Anything about the queer characters and their complex relationships with each other/their families/the queer community would be lovely. As always I’m especially here for the f/f relationship.

盗墓笔记 | Daomu Biji Adaptations [UMBRELLA]
I would genuinely be so happy to receive any multi-DMBJ vid so if you have an idea for a vid you’d like to make, go for it!! I love the Iron Triangle and so many of the recurring side characters (Hei Xiazi, Xiao Hua, Xiuxiu, A-Ning) and multi vids are great for drawing parallels and creating emotional arcs that continue through all the shows. I guess for one specific idea, I’ve never seen a Pangzi-focused vid and I would like to! Feelings and ships are great, pure tomb chaos is also great.

My one DNW is pingxie on its own—if you’re shipping the iron triangle I really want Pangzi to be involved.

I nominated Sand Sea as a standalone because it has really strong aesthetic and so many great one-off characters that get less attention in fandom: Liang Wan! Su Nan! The teens!!! I’m also super fascinated by the way the iron triangle has fallen apart and how Wu Xie and Pangzi’s relationship works in Xiaoge’s absence ;-;

So this show has. A lot of problems. But it could have been so good—I’m very here for idealistic heroes with tragic endings and I love a doomed relationship! Otoh if you just want to ignore the whole back half of the show and focus on the cute and fun parts that’s honestly fine as well :P

Things I’m interested in: almost all ships (see below) being happy or angsty or both, especially poly or platonic relationships, especially wen rou/wang xiaoshi/bai choufei(/su mengzhen) and lei chun & di feijing. lei chun as a character and especially as leader of six half hall, a GOOD SOLID FACE HEEL TURN for bai choufei as opposed to the mediocre one he actually got

American Hippo - Sarah Gailey
I don't have much to say for this one! They're fun books and I would love to see a vid that puts hippos in the wild west, that sounds delightful. Also I'm slowly realizing that if someone nominates heist media I can't not request it. Heists! Heists with hippos!!

The Green Knight (2021) [SAFETY]
The aesthetic of this movie was so strong and creepy and beautiful!!! I like how it adheres thematically to the original story in terms of being mostly about a guy who wanders around and has stuff happen to him. Poor Dev Patel, he is so confused.

Inception (2010) [SAFETY]
It's wild to me that Inception is eligible but I sure haven't seen a lot of Inception vids! I love heists, I love heist teams, I love weird dream logic visuals (which explains like half this list, really.) I'm less interested in Dom than pretty much any other character.

Infinity Train (Cartoon)
The concept and worldbuilding of this cartoon are so excellent--sometimes there's a weird train that helps you work through your trauma by giving you worse and weirder trauma! Anything that focused on the worldbuilding would be cool as would pretty much any character- or relationship-focused vid! I wanted to list specific characters but it would just be all of them. I think everything with the train denizens is super interesting, same with the Apex kids, same with Amelia. If you want to do Ryan/Min-gi, absolutely go for it.

双镜 | Couple of Mirrors (TV)
I haven't actually finished this show as of writing this letter, but I'm really enjoying it! I like both the leads and would be into a ship vid or a character study of either of them. I also kinda ship Xu Youyi/Zhang Wan in a messed up way so if you wanted to delve into the limited content available for that relationship that would be neat! I don't care for the husband though.

기생충 | Parasite (2019) [SAFETY]
Great intense movie, very pretty, fuck capitalism. The visuals are stunning and add so much thematically. I care a lot about the Kim family, especially the son and daughter and their sibling relationship. I think there are so many cool angles you could take on a Parasite vid!

General vid likes and dislikes: I’ll be happy with any music choice as long as it fits the vid you’re making! I’m very here for unusual and creative sound choices. One thing I’m not wild about is vids that have a ton of source dialogue over the whole thing (especially if it’s a song with lyrics) but a little is fine. If you have ideas for how to incorporate audio for the sources where visuals are scarce, go for it! Feel free to get creative with effects, outside sources, etc. too, as long as it meshes well with the source material and doesn’t deviate too wildly in tone/theme.

Aniara (2018) [SAFETY]
Warning up front: this movie is pretty dark/depressing/existentially nightmarish. I haven’t seen it for a while, but it for sure contains depictions of depression, suicide, child death, and a queer relationship ending tragically. If that doesn’t sound like something you want to watch in 2020, skip this one!
I would never have thought to nominate this but I’m so psyched someone else did!!! This movie is absolutely gorgeous and sad and made me feel a lot of things. I’d love any vid for it, but just to throw out a couple ideas: something about the Mimarobe and Isagel’s relationship, finding reasons to live in deep space, anything using the beautiful space visuals and the rapidly-expanding time scale.

Hadestown – Mitchell
I love this musical, the aesthetic is so strong. The music is widely available (the original cast recording is probably my favorite of the various albums) but I don’t know what visual source is out there other than some clips on youtube. Whatever you can pull together to use works for me, whether that’s the filmed Broadway clips, live performances of the music, behind the scenes, still images, footage from other sources you want to pull in—it’s all good! I’d love a vid about the socialist/organizing angle they brought to it on Broadway, or about Persephone and Hades, or a Eurydice character study!

Hilda (Cartoon)
This cartoon has the sweetest aesthetic and tone. I love Hilda’s relationship with her mom, and I’d dig a vid about that or about the weird and magical worldbuilding and the various creatures Hilda encounters! Her friends are wonderful too, I’m always here for a friendship vid.

Los Espookys (TV)
I LOVE ALL THE CHARACTERS ON THIS SHOW. I’d be so here for an ensemble friendship vid, or a vid focused on literally any of the main characters. Úrsula and Tati sibling vid? Renaldo horror enthusiasm vid? Andrés magical intrigue vid? General spooky weirdness vid and silly effects vid? All great!!

Speed Racer (2008) [SAFETY]
This movie is an assault on the eyes and I love it so much. I just want to see something fun and visually weird!!! Also, I’m a fan of the Togokahn siblings, bc I’m predictable.

The Strange Case of Starship Iris (Podcast)
Space crime found family of my heart…..this is the trickiest source on this list to vid, obviously, so I would be over the moon about absolutely anything you created for it!! Traditional vid, fake trailer, whatever you want to go for. Arkady/Violet is a good ship but also every character and ship is good. I don’t know how you would visually depict space bees but if you did it I would be in awe of you forever.

Hello Festividder! Thank you so much for doing this, you are wonderful. I’m sure I’ll enjoy anything you make!

I’m super flexible music-wise—if it fits the tone of the vid, I’m here for it. I’m not super into vids that feature a lot of source audio over music without a compelling reason to do so, but for the podcasts you could certainly pull audio from the source or find other music that works, or use a mix of both! My one general request for the non-visual canons is you do your best not to whitewash them, since most of the major characters are people of color.

Fantastic Four (2015) [SAFETY]

Look. Is this a good movie? It is not. But it has a lot of potential!!! The idea of doing a horror-ish take on superheroes (especially the Fantastic Four) is a great one, and this movie backs it up with some cool visuals, if not, you know…good plot. But I love the idea of the FF’s powers as an “affliction,” and I love the 3/4s of the movie for which the main villain is the military. Creepy planet-possessed Victor is really weird and interesting. The Storm family interactions are great, Ben and Reed’s friendship is great. MICHAEL B JORDAN IS THE BEST EVER CASTING FOR JOHNNY STORM. Please give me the weird dark FF movie of my dreams! (And/or just give me a Johnny Storm vid. A+++ Johnny Storm)

Friends at the Table (Podcast)

Hi I love this show. My ideal vid for this would be something that captures the aesthetic and ambiance of Twilight Mirage (utopian worldbuilding! Weird digital spaces! Weirder planets!), but I recognize that that’s a BIG ask. I would be delighted with anything that builds a visual look for any one season/campaign—a Counter/WEIGHT amv or Hieron/Marielda HBO show trailer would be incredible. Or if you’d like to go a more RPF direction and focus on the fun interactions between good friends that would be delightful too! There’s not a lot of visual material there but there is their very cute SHUX live show and some clips floating around from GenCon.

Here are a few loose prompts for various seasons if that’s helpful, feel free to ignore: MARIELDA HEIST CRIME TEAM. The Chime feat. Orth and Jacqui! Literally anything with divines/mechs, pulling from any season. A character study of Samol/Hieron. The weirdness of spring. Literally any femslash!! (also tenfour!) Something about Cass or Echo and siblings.

Heaven Will Be Mine (Visual Novel)

HWBM is a great little game about queer mech pilots. It only takes a couple hours to play! Unsurprisingly (check out my icon) I love Luna-Terra, who has a lot of feelings and has never betrayed anyone in her life, ever. Pluto is also the best (“dislikes: trying very hard not to have any”). Really the whole ot3! I would love an ot3 vid!! Also the side characters! Also giant robots as metaphors for bodies and society! The game has pretty but relatively minimal/still graphics, as most of the story is conveyed through text, so if you want to mix in outside sources, have at it. (But to be clear, I think you could make an excellent vid with just game graphics!)

Marvel 2-in-One (2017)

Some background if you’re not familiar with Fantastic Four comics: in 2015, half the Fantastic Four “died,” leaving behind Johnny Storm, the Human Torch, and Ben Grimm, the Thing, who joined various other superhero teams and mostly existed in the background for a couple years. In 2017, in anticipation of the “dead” characters returning, this series was created to reunite Johnny and Ben and deal with their grief and generally fraught relationship. There’s SO MUCH ANGST and love and good, nuanced feelings of the type that comics characters are rarely allowed to have. The Fantastic Four have always been a family first and foremost and this series leans all the way in on that. If you’re interested in trying a comics vid, this might be a good place to start, since the whole run is only 12 issues! (Although you’d be more than welcome to include other FF comics if you’d like.)

Now You See Me (Movies)

These movies have everything: elaborate Robin Hood heists, incomprehensible plot twists, stage magic as a fighting technique, secret societies, Daniel Radcliffe as a magic-hating villain, found family??, the most implausible magic tricks you’ve ever seen…basically heists + stage magic = so much fun nonsense! I’d love a vid focused on the Horsemen as a team or on the elaborate historical magic backstory. Or whatever Mark Ruffalo’s up to.

The Penumbra Podcast

The Penumbra Podcast is an anthology show with multiple distinct storylines, so there are a lot of vid possibilities here! I love Juno Steel, queer nb private detective on Mars, more than basically anything. (He’s grown as a person! He’s realized he has friends! Excuse me while I cry) A space noir vid could be extremely cool visually! I also love a LOT of second citadel characters, so a vid about Sir Caroline (angry lady knight), Rilla/Damien/Arum (lizard ot3), Sir Marc and Talfryn (ridiculous brothers) or all of the above would be wonderful!! If you wanted to do a meta-ish vid about the Penumbra hotel/train/whatever it will be next, that would also be rad as heck.

Parable Series - Octavia E. Butler

This series hits pretty close to home in a lot of ways, and might feel a little too real in the current political climate, but I love the thread of hope running through it. Earthseed is so fascinating as a flawed but beautiful religion that sees change as inherently divine, and I would love a vid on those themes. I also think there’s a really cool multi sci-fi vid to be made around “the destiny of Earthseed is to take root among the stars.”

Sorry To Bother You (2018)

This was probably my favorite movie of 2018! I love the mildly surreal aesthetic and the poking fun at capitalism. I especially loved Tessa Thompson’s character (her fashion!!!!) so a vid about her or her relationship with Cassius would be awesome. Or anything that explores how the different characters exist and live their lives in the weird slight dystopia they exist in.

Hello vidder, thank you for making a vid for me!! I signed up at the very last minute so I’m going to keep this letter brief. I’m not at all picky about music—use what makes sense for the vid you’re trying to make!

Here are my requests:

Romeo+Juliet (1996)
The aesthetic of this movie is amazing—I’m fascinated by it as an adaptation of Shakespeare and I’d love a vid focused on exploring the absolutely wild world created here. I also remember really liking Harold Perrineau’s performance as Mercutio, so a character vid for him would be great!

Neon Genesis Evangelion
I’ve only recently watched this show for the first time, and I have a lot of feelings about it. I love mechs and these are GOOD WEIRD MECHS. So creepy! So traumatizing to children! I’d love to see something with creepy alien stuff and/or the kids and their relationships and/or the horrors of war. Also Misato/Ritsuko is a good ship and I’d be super happy to get a femslash vid!

Immortals - Tamora Pierce
I loved these books as a kid, and any version of Tortall rendered in a visual format would be so cool to see!!! Women warriors! Animal magic! DINOSAURS! I love Daine and Numair individually as characters but I’m not huge on Daine/Numair, so I’d appreciate it if that wasn’t the focus of the vid.

But I'm a Cheerleader (1999)
This movie has a really over-the-top aesthetic and wacky energy that I think would be really fun to play around with, especially the absurd parodies of gender norms and the absolutely surreal use of color. Gotta have a happy gay ending, of course!

Mononoke-hime | Princess Mononoke
I think about this quote all the time: "Life is suffering. It is hard. The world is cursed. But still, you find reasons to keep living." It’s a very beautiful movie, both thematically and visually!! I like that it’s not a simple ‘technology=evil/nature=good’ narrative—the morality of the situation is much more complex than that. And I just want to look at Ghibli plants forever.

Thank you so much for making me a vid!!! You are awesome and I’m sure to love whatever you create. Obviously, you shouldn’t feel beholden to this to anything in this letter, but it’s here if you’re looking for direction!

I listen to all kinds of music and can enjoy a vid set to pretty much anything. If you're making a vid explicitly about POC or queer themes, it would be cool to use music by an artist of color and/or queer artist! I have no strong dislikes or DNWs, but things that I especially like include: found family, sibling relationships, femslash, relationships between women generally, worldbuilding/vids that explore the world and imagery of the source, meta vids, social justice.

Clue (1985) [SAFETY]: This movie is a childhood favorite of mine! It’s just such a fun, ridiculous mess of mystery tropes, and every actor’s performance is hilarious. I love the multiple endings and the recurring gags throughout each!

Dirty Computer - Janelle Monáe (Music Video) [SAFETY]: This album/film is SO BEAUTIFUL. I love the aesthetic, the queerness, and the sci-fi worldbuilding complete with rebellion against dystopia. And that ot3!!! A vid about the ot3, the sci-fi elements and/or the politics would be fantastic! If you’re feeling ambitious, I’m also a huge fan of Monáe’s previous Cindi Mayweather universe, and anything that connected Dirty Computer’s near future to Cindi Mayweather’s far future would be incredibly cool.

Ocean's 8 (2018) [SAFETY]: HEISTS ARE THE BEST. THESE WOMEN ARE ALSO THE BEST. I love them each individually and together. I’d be very into a friendship/found family ensemble vid, but I’m also here for literally any ship among the 8 so if you have one (or more) absolutely run with that! Also, hell yes to a vid featuring the mechanics of the heist itself. (The nomination doesn’t include the other Ocean’s movies, but I like them as well! A vid about Debbie’s relationship with her brother could be wonderful too.)

Now You See Me (Movies): As previously mentioned, heists!! They’re the best. These movies are a little terrible but in the best possible way: vaguely Robin Hood-y crime! stage magic! But maybe also real magic?! Sleight of hand as a combat style! Daniel Radcliffe is a cheesy villain in the second one! I love the weird crime family the four (or five…or six…) Horsemen have formed and I love the whole weird world of underground stage magic/potentially real magic/conspiracies/heists/secret societies that these movies have posited the existence of. Also, some of the magic visuals are incredibly fun.

Runaways (TV 2017): I’m a huge fan of the original Runaways comics (and the new ones by Rainbow Rowell!) and I’m really enjoying this adaptation so far! Nico/Karolina is super good, I love the choice to make Molly and Gert siblings and their relationship <3, and I’m very interested in the creepy tension of not being able to trust your parents. I’d welcome a vid exploring any of those things, an ensemble vid (especially one of the kids as a found family), an Alex or Nico character study, pretty much anything!

WNBA RPF: I love the whole wonderful queer WNBA community! My team is the Lynx and I would really appreciate a vid that included their amazing starting lineup of the past few years: Maya Moore, Lindsay Whalen, Seimone Augustus, Sylvia Fowles and Rebekkah Brunson. I’ve been following Lindsay Whalen since she was in college and I have a lot of feelings.

Dear Equinox-er,

Thank you for vidding for me! Sorry this letter is a bit late—if you already have an idea, feel free to ignore its contents. I’m just excited to get a vid for one of these sources! Absolutely any type of music works for me, as long as it fits what you’re doing with the vid.

Chronicles of Narnia: A childhood favorite! I love the Pevensies a lot (Susan did nothing wrong!) and would be happy with anything focusing on them and/or the worldbuilding. What I’m not as into is the Christian allegories, so I’d appreciate it if you didn’t lean on those too hard.

A Wrinkle in Time: This movie was so sweet! I love Meg and I love to watch everyone else supporting her. The visuals are fantastic as well, so a pure adventure-focused vid would be great.

San Junipero: San Junipero is the only Black Mirror episode I’ve seen take an optimistic view of what technology can do, which made me very happy. (And I love the main ship!)

Fringe: I love how Fringe’s alternate universes hinge on the choices characters make, and how their lives end up looking different as a result. A vid focused on Olivia & Fauxlivia, or the relationships between the team and their alternate-universe counterparts generally would be super cool.

Fantastic Four (Comics) (/Marvel Two-in-One, if you want): The thing that sets the Fantastic Four apart from other superhero teams is that they don’t fight crime so much as they explore. I love their family dynamics, and the curiosity that drives them all to hop realities over and over.

Multi – portal fantasy: The portal fantasy genre is absolutely fascinating to me. (If you’re not familiar with the term, examples in the tag set include Wizard of Oz, Alice in Wonderland, Chronicles of Narnia, Over the Garden Wall, the Wayward Children series, and many more) I’d be happy to see a vid that celebrates the tropes common to these stories (wonder! discovery! friendship!), and equally happy to see a vid which deconstructs the narrative a little—what’s it like to be a kid drafted into a supernatural war? How hard is it to go back to being a kid once you’ve been a princess?

Music-wise, I like indie rap/hiphop, but more importantly I like anything that fits the theme of the vid. Pop, rock, folk, country, musical theater, it’s all good. Slow and sad tends to not be my favorite, but if it works with the emotions in the vid, go for it.

Take My Wife (TV 2016) [SAFETY]: I only got around to watching this show pretty recently, but it’s so, so funny and sweet and heartwarming. I love Cameron and Rhea’s relationship and humor, and the general vibe that doing things from stand-up comedy to long-term relationships is hard and takes work but is so completely worth it.

Gotham Central: I love the GCPD as an ensemble, and the concept of non-superpowered, non-vigilante characters trying to exist and make a difference in a superhero universe. Also, Renee Montoya is one of my favorite characters ever, and I’d welcome anything focusing on her, even drawing from sources outside Gotham Central (Question comics, DCAU, Gotham TV show.)

Blazing Saddles (1974) [SAFETY]: This movie is an old favorite of mine! It's hilarious and charming, and the entire cast is excellent, especially Cleavon Little, Gene Wilder and Madeline Kahn. I love the slapstick, the Wild West tropes mixed with anachronisms and meta humor, and the Bart & Jim friendship. There are so many fun/funny vids to be made here! (Please leave out the n-word though.)

Janelle Monae – Works: I love everything Janelle Monae does: her sci-fi aesthetic and storytelling, her politics and activism, really just her whole deal. I'd really love a vid set in the Cindi Mayweather universe, maybe incorporating outside sources since the only canon footage comes from a couple of her music videos and some additional promotional videos. She's created such a fascinating story and setting with her albums and I think that world could really use some exploration! If that's not your style, I'd also welcome a more RPF-type approach celebrating any aspect of her life and work.

Now for the fully half of my requests with no visual component. I know these are tricky, and I would love to see a vid for them at all! My one general request is that you try to respect the diversity of the source material, and include diversity where possible.

The Penumbra Podcast: Juno Steel is my forever fave (I want him to know he has friends! </3) and I love that space noir aesthetic. But there are so many other cool things going on with this podcast!!! A diverse fantasy vid featuring the second citadel would be amazing, as would Wild West lesbians raising a family, as would lizard ot3. Something featuring the Penumbra Hotel (/whatever) itself would also be EXTREMELY cool.

The Strange Case of Starship Iris (Podcast): I love space and found family a lot (part 1). There’s not a lot of this podcast in existence—it’s not a safety, but it’s currently under 180 minutes, and I highly recommend checking it out! It’s kind of like Firefly, but better, queerer, and featuring alien linguistics. I love all the characters so any ship or character-focused vid would be great, as would an ensemble vid.

Wolf 359 (Radio): I love space and found family a lot (part 2). Especially Hera (anything to do with AI would be so good) and Minkowski, and the crew they form with Eiffel. And the plant monster. And the weird transmissions from deep space. The show has such a cool creepy vibe when it’s not being a workplace sitcom on a space station, and both of those wildly different tones would make for great vids! (I also love Minkowski/Lovelace.)

Six of Crows Series - Leigh Bardugo: Fantasy heists!!!! And found family. (I’m starting to see a pattern here.) I especially love Inej and her wire-walking ways, and Nina being a plus-size badass. I also think there are some seriously cool visuals to be found in this fantasy world, and if you gave vidding those a shot I would be super impressed.
